Q: My daughter recently graduated from college and started a full time job in July. She has no debt. She has not had any credit on her own but is an authorized user on one of my credit cards that I have had for many years. She has a banking relationship checking and savings accounts with First Federal Lakewood. She recently applied for a credit card with Citibank and received the attached letter as a response. While the request for the authorization for the Social Security Administration to release a verification seems appropriate it doesn't seem quite right that they would need a copy of a Social Security card.

Do you think this is a reasonable request. If she doesn't supply it, she won't get a credit card. Once she gets her own credit card, how long should I wait to drop her as an authorized user without negatively affecting her credit score. It stinks, but it is what it is.

After she gets her card, I would keep her on your card as an authorized user at least until she gets her second account on her own, whether that's a car loan or another credit card.
